Nastrom – Big Escape EP (2020) Doom/dark stuff with Heavy Bass from: Serbia

Salud hermanos y a escuchar y leer! Miguel Krieg.

Dear friends, if really you feel bad, with moral hangover or depressed is moment to give a soundtrack to that moments to your life to be more miserable. Our friend Stevan has sent us their new EP as Nastrom “Big Escape” from Serbia, a country with cold/mild weather and a history very very convulsive. If you remember their latest EP written here, surely you will like this one because Big Escape follows the same compositive way where you could find fat bass distorted lines that dominates all musical form maybe sometimes ornamented with some dissonant paintings on the background with guitars and repetitive rythms with machine drums influenced heavily by Godflesh,.. in other words so dark and minimalist, so better to prepare your knifes, get closed on your miserable worlds and turn up the volume at max with optional narcotics to be consumed while this 5 tracks are playing. Salud brothers and sisters, and go to read and listening!… Miguel krieg,

it’s a real enjoyment to listen this dark bass fuelled downer music on a cloudy rainy cold day from wintertime “Mooncult backyard ritual” begins just when the storm starts stronger and really really is dark music without that suffocant feeling of most doom/sludge bands overworld, this is cold machinery by the way that this is a one man band from Serbia that do it all and plays fat notes on his gibson eb3 heavybass, really that bass has a greasy sound, you could hear it from the hands of Jack Bruce on Cream and nothing has to do with the ultra famous rickenbacker. Well with their minimalistic lyrics it remaind me to the dark backyards from the game Silent Hill 1, dark, alone and cold on the evil version of the game.

Our friend Stevan Lenhard share with us another awesome 5 tracks on his trademark dark sounds in the stile of Godflesh and other real heavy acts from europe, the truth is that I love this minimalistic (said again) compositions where the bass and rythms take the main paper on this nightmare, the title track “Big Escape” has some really delicious dissonances on every lines recorded, dissonance for me is the main reason I like music, if some music dont have this sense of evil or unsablesness for me is only music, but with this kind of evil dissonances music inside is more and more listenable.

We can hear the echo of guitars painting an atmosphere on every track while Stevan whispers the lyrics on the songs. Recently I was listening some post punk music on 80’s and discovered that it was all about atmospheres and rythm (bass and drums) while guitars where noise or strange dissonances floating on their fender twin reverb, this music has those elements but complementing with a heavy sound and more heavy musical structures, really repetitive but music is like that, if you have affairs about something that could never ends, please dont listen this works.

“Dance with dead” maybe is the feeling of the inevitable, “take her hand, dance with dead (cabaret)” the sense of your life ending its one of the most feared feelings on human psyche, I have been with death toughts many times on my life but after accepting and dancing with her you stay with her and learn to live with that fact, someday the dance will became eternal but for now we can continue dancing with the mistress of misery: the human misery.

On “last stations” we hear the guitar taking the main melodic lines talking with the bass lines and mixing together with a sense of depression and anguish, its really like depression feels, not the theatric maniac depressive black metal stuff, this we could feel the loneliness on the music. Talking about the recording sound I could hear everything clear like the crystal, all in their place, I ask myself how Stevan could recorded all this by himself, what did he use on the final mix?.

From time to time this track evoques to my mind the landscape of some cold industrial city, maybe a Russian one where we could breathe the chemicals on the cold air and people wasting their lives trying to survive, really we has passed the industrial era? I dont think so, it mixed with the information era but we are still slaves of our destiny, an era of superproduction and spiritual meaningless,

As I said on my first words about their first work, I knew Stevan on the avalanchers old forum on internet and I knew that he was recording some tracks while I was too working on mine, I can see now the evolution of their sound and really it goes on their own way witout copying or adding different styles on their songs only to be accepted. It appears that Nastrom Big Escape brings a dark cloud on the weather outside beacause when I hear the less depressive track “Time To Quit” the sun suddenly comes and rain quits! haha, really its amazing how this music brings a dark feel like when you receive some bad news, very human news that makes you feel like trash, like your girlfriend cheating on you, some kind of moral hangover or the death of somebody, that feeling of disppear, loneliness, darkness,… all you have on this 5 songs EP, now the sun shines and its time to quit nastorm until the next cloudy day.
